About the Program
The Speech Communication program at Rock Valley College provides students with training in public speaking, interpersonal communication, intercultural communication, and gender communication. The Speech Department guides the student in the creation and maintenance of professional and personal relationships and stresses the importance of effective communication in all relationships.
A goal of the Speech Department is to emphasize three important communication skills:
- develop a deeper understanding of diversity as a central role in the world
- develop an understanding of the importance of critical thinking skills in relation to the many messages in social media and the internet, and
- develop an understanding of the dynamics of working and functioning in a group.
Achieving these competencies are critical to the success of an individual in their professional and personal worlds.
